37 down, 3 to go?
Today was our 37 week doctor appointment and everything looked good – my blood pressure, baby’s heartrate, etc. She approved my birth plan and confirmed that he is definitely still head down.
But how do you reply when the doc says, “this isn’t going to be the smallest baby I’ve ever seen?” On one hand, this is a good thing because I’m sure she’s seen some pretty tiny ones in her years of delivering babies. On the other hand, I’m not so sure about delivering a big baby (especially since I hope to deliver unmedicated, but we’ll see how that goes).
She asked what size Little was when she was born and when I said 7 lbs 1 oz she said that Boo is about that size now and will probably be bigger than that, especially if we go three more weeks. The doc who delivered Little “guesstimated” her to be much bigger than she actually was, so we’ll see if this doc is more adept at determining size based solely on external signs.
The only question that remains (or at least the only one that comes to mind) is whether or not we’ll make it through these next three weeks. According to my “progress report” today I’m at about the same dilation/thinning as the day Little was born. Guess we better get a hospital bag packed and the car seat installed!

I don’t think their estimates are too good, so don’t worry. My doc thought my favorite boy was about 6lbs, and he was 8lbs.5oz! With my SIL, they estimated much higher than the baby actually was.
It won’t be long! How exciting!
Hi…I’ve been lurking for a while (I don’t remember how I found you, but I started reading since I so rarely “meet” someone with my name) and I’ve really been enjoying your blog.
I just wanted to say best wishes on a happy, healthy baby in the coming weeks (and a quick, fairly pain-free delivery). I’m looking forward to hearing all about Baby Boo’s arrival.
I don’t remember if my doc estimated or not, but my last baby (who is now 9 years old) was 9 lbs. 10 oz., and I didn’t have any meds. It can be done! They gave me meds after she was delivered because I had some complications, but none before. We were shocked! We had no idea she would be so big. My first was 8 lbs. 4 oz., and the second was 7 lb. 11 oz. You’ll find out soon enough!
Ok, if you have your baby before I have mine I’ll be terribly jealous! I hope this little guy doesn’t get much bigger!
Those weight estimates are usually off the mark. I expect Boo will be in Little’s same ballpark. It won’t be much longer now. I hope everything goes just the way you want it to go. I loved the story about Little’s “bwa”. She is just way to cute! Love to all,Aunt Wanda.
It won’t be long now. You and Little better take a nap or two. You are both about to be very busy. Matt, Too.
Love you all,
Aunt Nan
I am CONVINCED those docs just guess. I was told J wouldn’t be bigger than 8 lbs. She was 8.4. I am too small for that! Had her at 40 wks 1 day. A was “about 8 lbs” but when I had her she was barely 7!! Though she was a little early. In any case, here’s hoping and praying Boo is healthy!
