Torn
I’m torn between my desire to share pictures of my adorable (um…yeah, but I’m a bit biased) children with all of you, my lovely readers, and my desire to protect the privacy and security of my little ones. This is an issue I’ve debated with myself for as long as I’ve been blogging. I feel that most of what goes on in the mommy-blogging sphere is safe and on the up-and-up; however, this is a public domain, and I don’t know who might be lurking that I’m unaware of. As much as I enjoy talking about my children, as much as I would love to share with you their beautiful names, and as much as I would love to post picture after picture of their cute faces, I’m just not sure I can do it in good conscience.
How much info do you share about your children (names, pictures, etc)? How did you decide what to share? Have you had any experiences that would cause you to re-evaluate? Please share in the comments.
I have no problem sharing their names or pictures. I left it up to my husband, who is much more knowledgable about these things and he said it was fine. He does not have a problem with it.
I share both on mine as well, but I can certainly understand the hesitation to do so. There are lots of weirdos out there for sure. But, I started my blog as a way to keep distant friends and family updated on our lives, so it was only natural to include names and photos.
Same for me. I have shared their names, and post pictures for out of state relatives. I think it’s cute that you call them Little and Boo. I don’t worry about stuff like that.
Shoot! I hit the wrong button. I wanted to add that you need to do what’s right for you and your family, and if that means no pics, then no pics.
You know me… I always shared pics and a lot of them, but then I started to realize that if family members were cut and pasting them and sharing them on their websites- how it was sooo easy for anyone to do that. So I stopped. I’ve slowly added a few back in. I’m not doing wordless wednesday anymore.. not every post has a pic (i love a pic on every post!) but we parents have got to take care of our kids. i don’t use their names, or our names or a town that we live in. i mean, i think people if they really wanted to figure it out probably could if they took the time.
Obviously, I share pics of my kids. I do try to be sure that I keep their names private, and I try to make sure I don’t include pictures that give away our specific location (other than middle TN). I think this is a decision that each blogger has to make for herself. I am not sure there is a “right” answer!
i also share our names and photos but not last names and not our exact location. you have to do what YOU feel is best for your family though!
