Quick, before I get Sidetrack'd

Umm…it’s only September

Thoughtfully penned on September 4th, 2008 and generally concerning Sidetrack'd, Things that make you say "what?!"

I realize that as of Tuesday we’ve entered into unofficial Fall (official Fall beginning Sept. 22), but, really, does that alone mean it is time to start advertising Halloween candy? I’ve noticed Halloween candy/decor in ads each of the last two weeks, and even Christmas – yeah, you read that right – decorations in one ad! Come on, are people really buying candy for a holiday that is still eight weeks away?

All I know is that, around here, candy wouldn’t last that long. In fact, I generally don’t buy Halloween candy until sometime between October 29th and 31st; I’m a bit of a procrastinator, though.

When do you start stocking up for the holiday?

Noise from the peanut gallery

  1. I definitely don’t buy Halloween candy til a few days before… It wouldn’t last! I also don’t make cookies or buy candy for Christmas until a few weeks before….for the same reason! The other day I also saw Christmas stuff. I was shocked! Oh me. Oh my. Why?

  2. Well, for Halloween, a day or so before. Like your house, it just wouldn’t make it for weeks around here. I have a bit of a sweet tooth. As for Christmas, well, our local craft store starts bringing out the holly and the ivy in June, so we just pick up things as we see them. Then start decorating Thanksgiving weekend! Woo-hoo!

  3. Last year, a week after I had Ashley (the middle of October) Walmart had CHRISTMAS stuff ev-er-y-where!! Insanity! I was all, “Where is HALLOWEEN?!?!”

  4. For the record, any candy actually FOR Halloween has to be bought the day before or the day of. I think you know why…

  5. We don’t celebrate Halloween, but somehow we always end up with some of the candy in our house. I like candy. A little too much! As for Christmas, I try to have my shopping done by Thanksgiving so I don’t have to fight the madness in the stores. It usually doesn’t happen though, and I find myself battling the last minute shoppers.

  6. I am late with many things- but I do have to say I love fall so I am excited for that to get here! :)

  7. Cracker Barrel has had Christmas trees up for over a month. INSANE!
