Quick, before I get Sidetrack'd

Bargaining, preschool style

Thoughtfully penned on April 14th, 2010 and generally concerning E, J, Life with littles

For the last few weeks I’ve been trying (unsuccessfully) to convince Boo that he should give up his paci when he turns two. The whole “you’ll be a big boy” spiel has failed along with the “only babies take pacis” route. In my latest venture I decided that maybe bribery was the way to go.

Me: Would you trade your paci for a soccer ball?
Boo: no
Me: Would you trade your paci for a new dinosaur?
Boo: no
Me: Would you trade your paci for a new train?
Little: yeah, Boo, a new train
Boo: no, Mommy
Me: Would you trade your paci for a slide?
Little: yeah, Boo, a slide would be fun
Boo: no

Little: I’d trade my thumbs for an octopus!

  1. Too funny. Thanks for sharing. :)

  2. Totally loving Little’s last comment! She cracks me up!

  3. Little is sooo funny!!! this made me laugh out loud. We are 100% paci free!!!! yay we just did the whole cold turkey thing and it worked for us. it was harder on me than it was Jax. now after this transition to a new house and a toddler bed i might not be saying the same thing. i guess we will see in a week

  4. priceless–thanks for sharing the joy

  5. I would totally trade my thumbs for an octopus too.

  6. Ha this is so funny! I love Little’s last comment! I would love to know where that came from?

  7. Little is HILARIOUS!!

  8. what about mailing it to a baby in need? would he go that route?

  9. I love the way the 3 year old mind works :) Thanks for stopping by yesterday!

  10. We got lucky on this. My FB would only suck ONE pacifier–no other paci would do. Around his 2nd birthday, it broke, and that was the end of that! Unfortunately, my Best Girl sucks her thumb (she’s almost 5 1/2). I have no idea how to break her of it!
