What exactly does “married” mean to her?

Thoughtfully penned on May 5th, 2010 and generally concerning E, Life with littles

A few weeks ago we (Matt, the kids, and I) were driving home from a friend’s wedding when the following conversation occurred…

Little: “Mom, I’m so glad you aren’t married.”

Me: “Little, I am married.”

Little: “No you aren’t.”

Me: “Yes, honey, I am.”

Little: “No you aren’t!”

Me: “Yes, Little, Daddy and Mommy are married.”

Little (with a hilariously serious expression): “No you are NOT!”

Me: “Yes, sweetheart, we are. You know the picture on the mantle of Mommy and Daddy at our wedding? That’s when we got married.”

Little (with a wide-eyed, very serious look): “You aren’t married!”

Me (adamantly and a bit exasperated): “Yes, we are! You’ve seen the pictures from our wedding.”

Little (once again with the wide-eyed serious look): “You don’t have pictures because you are NOT married!”

Matt: “Please don’t say that in public!”

Ten on Tuesday #29

Thoughtfully penned on May 4th, 2010 and generally concerning Meme, Ten on Tuesday

Happy Tuesday! Here’s this week’s Ten on Tuesday. Enjoy.

1. Do you prefer markers, crayons, or colored pencils?
Nice, new, sharp crayons. I’m a bit OCD about my crayons. I only use Crayola, they must have wrappers on them, and once the tip wears down I don’t use them anymore. My kids’ crayon box drives.me.crazy.

2. As a child, how did your parents celebrate your birthday? (Parties, cake, you pick the dinner, etc.)

We had cake and, usually, a party. And gifts, of course.

3. How do you feel about leggings?
I don’t like them for me. My legs are much to big to put into leggings. I do, however, love BabyLegs on Baby Girl.

4. How do you prefer to follow directions? With a map? Words?
I prefer voice nav on my phone. If I’m going off of written directions, though, I prefer words. I don’t do well with maps.

5. What do you eat for snack?
It depends on the day, my mood, and what’s in the house. I eat a lot of the kids’ snacks (cheddar bunnies, goldfish, cheez its) when we’re out and about; my favorite snacks are popcorn, ice cream, and chocolate.

6. Have you ever ordered anything from an infomercial or bought any As Seen on TV products?
No.

7. What’s your favorite thing about summer?
Nice, ripe, red tomatoes (and grilled ones, yum!), fresh corn, and being outside with the kids (until the temps are in the 90s).

8. Do you have a tattoo? What and where is it?

I do not.

9. Are you good at journaling?
Not on paper. I journal occasionally, but I have never been one to do it regularly.

10. What’s your favorite way to eat a hamburger?
Grilled, on a bun, with sharp cheddar cheese, barbecue sauce, lettuce, tomato.

Menu Plan Monday ~ May 1-8

Thoughtfully penned on May 3rd, 2010 and generally concerning In the kitchen, Menu Plan Monday

Welcome to Monday. It’s time, once again, to join the Menu Plan Monday carnival hosted by orgjunkie.com.

I sat outside Thursday morning while the kiddos played and made my menu plan for the month of May. This is the second month I’ve done a plan for the entire month, and I really like menu planning this way. It makes creating my weekly grocery list so much easier (since I don’t have to menu plan at the same time), and it’s a great way to make sure we have plenty of variety throughout the month.

So, here’s what we’ll be dining on this week…

Saturday lunch: sandwiches, chips
Saturday dinner: crunchy onion chicken tenders, green beans, sweet potato fries

Sunday lunch: meatball subs, chips
Sunday dinner: life group – build your own nachos

Monday: BLTS, carrots/broccoli and ranch dip

Tuesday: me – BSF fellowship, Matt & kids – pizza

Wednesday: biscuits, bacon, and eggs

Thursday: cajun trout, rice pilaf, steamed veggies

Friday: naan bread pizzas

Saturday lunch: sandwiches, veggies or chips
Saturday dinner: marinated shrimp skewers, brown rice, green peas

I write here at Sidetrack’d because I enjoy the exercise of writing, I like having a record of the things my crazy kiddos say and do, and I like interacting with you, my faithful readers.

I would love to respond to every comment posted on Sidetrack’d – and there aren’t that many, so it really isn’t an unreasonable goal – but WordPress will not forward comments to my e-mail address. We’ve tried several different e-mail addresses and Matt has spent a good deal of time researching the problem, and yet we cannot make it work. Apparently this is a pretty common issue in the world of blogs, but that doesn’t make me like it.

So, for now I will respond (when appropriate) to comments in the comment threads. Not what I would prefer, but it takes a significant amount of time to reply by e-mail at this point.

I do love to read your comments and hope that, on occasion, we might have some good discussions. Granted, the latter requires me writing posts that inspire discussion, but a girl can always dream, right?
