Boo

Good morning all. Just a quick note to let you know that Boo was born around midnight this morning. He weighs exactly 8 lbs. and is 20.5 inches long. Jana and Boo are both doing well and should be home tomorrow.

In the middle of the night

Posted on March 30th, 2007 in Baby, Faith, Little's Development, Motherhood

At 1:59 a.m. Matt and I were awakened by cries coming from Little’s room. I realize that in many households this is not unusual, but when it happens around here you can be pretty sure that there is a problem. Matt jumped out of bed, literally, and went to Little’s rescue. It seems that she had her leg stuck between the slats on her crib and when she moved the rest of her body that leg just wouldn’t come along like it should. Her Daddy gently freed her leg and then picked her up to comfort and reassure her.

She went back to sleep pretty quickly; it took me a while. When I’m having trouble going to sleep I often pray. As I lay there in the dark praying I thought about how our Father is always there; it doesn’t matter what time of day or night we call out, it doesn’t matter if we’ve just talked to Him or if it has been awhile, it doesn’t matter if it’s the time we usually talk to Him or if we’re calling out in fear, discomfort, pain, desperation. He is always there with open ears, open arms, an open heart. He is always there to pick us up, to comfort us, to reassure us.

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

T Minus 9 and Counting

Posted on June 5th, 2006 in Baby, Pregnancy

Here we are at week 31. All of a sudden around here it’s like, “oh my, only 9 weeks to go!” With the house and vacation, the last month has flown by.

We saw the doctor this morning and everything is looking good…her heart rate and movement are good and my blood pressure and weight are right where they should be. The doctor did comment on the fact that she is still sitting quite high (like I couldn’t tell!). We go back in 2 weeks for another standard visit.

A big “Thank You” to each of you who planned, participated in, and sent gifts to the shower on the 20th! I had a great time and Little received lots of good stuff. She is already well loved and blessed (as are her parents)!

To all of you concerned about Little’s room (including myself)...She will have a room and a bed by the time she gets here (barring any surprises in the next couple of weeks). We don’t have her bed yet, but we did order some pictures for her walls last night. :) I have a variety of paint samples to look at with M tonight, so hopefully we can get that taken care of in the next couple of days as well. There are a few beds we have found that we like, it is just a matter of deciding on one and going to make the purchase.

I am planning to quit work at the end of this month which should give me about 5 weeks to unpack boxes after the move and get Little’s stuff together and ready for her to use. It is exciting to be this close, but it is also a bit overwhelming when we think of all the things we still have to do.

Thank you, as always, for your continued prayers and words of concern and encouragement. We love you all!

Pictures Are Here!

Posted on April 14th, 2006 in Baby, Pregnancy

We finally got the ultrasound and belly pictures ready for the world to see!

We have some 2-D ultrasound pictures (standard ultrasound) and some 4-D ultrasound pictures (these appear blurrier and are more golden in color). The 4-D ones are a little harder to tell what is going on; it might help to know that all of these are in a vertical orientation with Little’s face toward the right of the picture.

The first belly picture (in the blue shirt) was taken on March 21st at 20 weeks; the second picture (in the striped shirt) was taken on April 11 at 23 weeks. We plan to take new pictures each week so you can see how big Little’s “house” is getting. :)

Car Seats, and Bottles, and Diapers…Oh My!

Posted on April 10th, 2006 in Baby

Have you ever stopped to think about how much stuff it takes to feed, and bathe, and care for a baby these days? Saturday was the great registry adventure, and I must say that we were a bit overwhelmed!

It all started about 10:30 at Babies ‘R Us. It took a few minutes to fill out the registry paperwork, but we were soon set free in the aisles armed with a trusty scanner gun. (M really enjoyed using the scanner guns.) Within a few seconds we were standing in the feeding section wondering why there had to be seventy-five different types of bottles and which type did we want to have living in our cabinets. We then moved on to bathtubs (again, there were way more options than are truly necessary) and spent the next 90 minutes or so making a lot of decisions that were made more on personal preference than on facts about the products. I feel comfortable with the products we chose based on research, but things that weren’t reviewed by Consumer Reports…well, that’s another matter all together. Our adventure wrapped up about 3:00 after registering at Target, and both of us were exhausted mentally and physically!

Hopefully, as first timers, we at least got some of the things we’ll need on the registry. I did notice that we seemed to put a lot of 0-3 months size onsies on the list. Too many? Give us a few months and we’ll have a better idea. :)
