A post about nothing

Thoughtfully penned on September 26th, 2008 and generally concerning Sidetrack'd

I feel like I should post something today, but I really don’t know that I have much to say.  I want to do the “birth story” post for Boo, but I’m not willing to take the time to do it right now.  I want to write a post about what Boo’s been up to these past couple of months (other than the sleeping issues) since I haven’t written much about him lately.  But seemingly, all I can do is tell you what I want to write about instead of actually writing about it.  Maybe next week.

So, I guess I’ll go curl up on the couch read A Wind in the Door until my babes wake up from their naps.

Have a happy weekend!

Umm…it’s only September

Thoughtfully penned on September 4th, 2008 and generally concerning Sidetrack'd, Things that make you say "what?!"

I realize that as of Tuesday we’ve entered into unofficial Fall (official Fall beginning Sept. 22), but, really, does that alone mean it is time to start advertising Halloween candy? I’ve noticed Halloween candy/decor in ads each of the last two weeks, and even Christmas – yeah, you read that right – decorations in one ad! Come on, are people really buying candy for a holiday that is still eight weeks away?

All I know is that, around here, candy wouldn’t last that long. In fact, I generally don’t buy Halloween candy until sometime between October 29th and 31st; I’m a bit of a procrastinator, though.

When do you start stocking up for the holiday?

Slacker

Thoughtfully penned on September 2nd, 2008 and generally concerning Sidetrack'd

I’ve been a slacker around here lately. It isn’t that I haven’t had time to write posts or that I haven’t had things that I wanted to post about, it’s simply that I haven’t taken the time to sit down and write anything. This slacker thing stretches beyond the blog (to laundry, housework, eBay listings, etc), so I really need to get my act together. Hopefully, I’ll be back tomorrow with more of the exciting mediocrity I call life.

Happy Fourth of July!

Enjoy the day with family and friends.  Enjoy the cookouts and swimming and fireworks.  Enjoy celebrating our country and our freedom.

Have a great weekend!

An, oh so, random thought for the day

I’m wondering…

Who came up with the term happy medium?  And did they ever find one?  If so, can they give me some pointers?

Playing catch up

Thoughtfully penned on June 3rd, 2008 and generally concerning Sidetrack'd

Events, my children, and the game conspired against me last week resulting in neglect of the blog, my naps, and most of my household chores.  As a result, I’m spending this week feeling a bit overwhelmed by what I need to do as I try to catch up.

There were several things that happened that I want to write about, so the next few days I hope to write some posts “rewinding” to last week.  But right now I’m off to lunch and nap.

Hope you are all having a great week!  Happy June!

Stinkin’ video game

Thoughtfully penned on May 29th, 2008 and generally concerning Of games and good things, Sidetrack'd

I’ve been intending to blog everyday this week, but I keep getting sucked into this crazy video game.  I actually have things I want to write about and everything.  Maybe I can evade the siren song tomorrow during naptime.  Stay tuned…

Not much to say right now

Thoughtfully penned on May 7th, 2008 and generally concerning Family, Sidetrack'd

Things are going well around here.

Enjoying the pretty weather – playing outside, walks, trips to the park.

Not getting as much sleep as I’d like (on that note, why does the 3 week old growth spurt hit right at the height of sleep deprivation?  That only adds insult to injury).

Managed to clean the kitchen (except for mopping) and dust part of the living room today – progress on the housekeeping front.

Looking forward to a visit from Matt’s parents this weekend.

Hope you’re all having a good week.  I’ll try to have some real content to post in the next day or so.

From the Sidetrack’d bookshelf – a giveaway

To celebrate Spring and the Spring Reading Thing, Sidetrack’d is hosting a book giveaway!

An Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor

This was a light and fun read that left me with much the same feeling as the books in Jan Karon’s Mitford series.  Living in the small, rural Irish town of Ballybucklebo during the mid-twentieth century, the two main characters endear themselves to you with their quirks, faults, and the way they interact with each other and the interesting clients of their medical practice.  If you are looking for a warm and happy read, I would recommend you check this one out.

From the back of the book:

Barry Laverty, M.B. can barely find the Northern Ireland village of Ballybucklebo on a map when he first sets out to seek gainful employment there.  But Barry jumps at the chance to secure a position as an assistant in a small rural practice.

At least until he meets Dr. Fingal Flahertie O’Reilly.

The older physician has his own way of doing things.  At first, Barry can’t decide if the pugnacious O’Reilly is the biggest charlatan he has ever met or the best teacher he could ever hope for.  Through O’Reilly, Barry soon gets to know all of the village’s colorful and endearing residents and a host of other eccentric characters who make every day an education for the inexperienced young doctor.

Ballybucklebo is a long way from Belfast, and Barry is quick to discover that he still has a lot to learn about country life.  But with pluck and compassion, and only the slightest touch of blarney, he will find out more about life – and love – than he ever imagined back in medical school.

If you would like to be entered in the drawing for this book, leave a comment on this post; you don’t have to be a blogger to win, just be sure to leave a valid e-mail address when you comment.  I will close the contest around noon on Friday, March 28, and determine a winner using the random number generator at random.org.  The winner will be announced here at Sidetrack’d and notified by e-mail and/or a comment on their personal blog.  This is my personal copy of this book, so it has been gently read.  I will be happy to ship to US addresses via USPS parcel post or media mail.

I hope to have a couple more giveaways during the Spring Reading Thing, so check back over the next several weeks.

A great babywearing giveaway

Thoughtfully penned on March 9th, 2008 and generally concerning Blogging News, Contests, Sidetrack'd

An Ordinary Life has teamed up with Sleepy Wrap to offer a great babywearing giveaway – one lucky winner will receive a new wrap (in either black or red) plus $100 cash from Sleepy Wrap!

I’ve had my eye on these wraps since my SIL got hers; she has raved so much about it that I decided I definitely need one when Baby Boo arrives. The Sleepy Wrap website has a bunch of great testimonials as well, such as, “Your Sleepy Wrap is awesome. My son JuÅ¡ likes it very much. I can’t imagine my life without it.” by Nika K.

And now I should say that if you’re interested check out the contest here, but I really don’t want to because I want to win this one myself!
